Delhi: Protest Against Church Burning

Scores of activists from different areas of Delhi participated in a protest organized by Delhi State Committee of CPI(M) against the burning of a church in Dilshad Garden, East Delhi. The protesters marched from the Vithalbhai Patel House towards the Home Ministry’s office but were stopped by the police at the Krishi Bhawan roundabout where it was converted into a public meeting.

Leaders of the Delhi state committee who addressed the protesters emphasized that such attacks are the outcome of the RSS and the BJP’s efforts to polarize society on communal lines. In the entire country as also in different parts of Delhi, various outfits owing allegiance to them have been attempting to spread communal hatred. They pointed out the incidents at Trilokpuri, Bawana and the attack on the Church at Dilshad Garden as some of the glaring examples. All the speakers dwelt on the need to create an environment of communal harmony in their areas and also to make the minorities feel safe. They also demanded judicial inquiry of the incident.
