There was a protest organised against the custodial death of SFI leader Sudipta Gupta, on the occasion of the visit of the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee to the Planning Commission Office on April 9, 2013. In the course of this protest, an incident took place involving the Finance Minister, Amit Mitra. The CPI(M) has disapproved and condemned this incident. The Party will look into how this has happened.

We would like to draw your attention to a very disturbing development regarding paid news and the manipulation of media organisations through the instrument of financial ratification to influence news coverage by the said media organisation to further the electoral interest of a particular political party.

We urge the Commission to ensure security deployment in such a manner that the continuing criminal activities, terrorization and intimidation by criminal and miscreants of the TMC is brought to a halt.

If indeed the TMC leader and Union Minister does possess some secret information we request you as the Union Home Minister to obtain such information and act on it in consultation with the state government. If on the contrary, there is no such information, as surely is the case, then may we request you to set at rest the apprehensions and tensions that have resulted from the Union Minister’s utterances.
